Seeing the bigger picture

Our philosophy has always been to deliver the best service possible. That starts with having the right diagnostic capabilities, which is why we invest in state-of-the-art equipment for accurate imaging and your peace of mind.

We know the life-changing impact of our work. At Ian Donald Optometrist, rest assured we execute our comprehensive eye exams with specialist tools and technology. With personalised attention and thorough pre- and diagnostic testing, we’re committed to delivering the best recommendations for your eye health.

Our equipment

Our advanced OCT machine takes high-resolution, microscopic images of your retina and corneal tissue to evaluate your eye health over time. It can assist in diagnosing macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal detachment, as well as structural changes in the retina and optic nerve.

We utilise Corneal Mapping to take HD pictures of your cornea that allow us to fit your contact lenses perfectly while monitoring any changes to the shape of your cornea.

Structure of human eye

Tonometry is a painless and quick procedure used to measure intraocular pressure and determine the resistance of your cornea to that pressure. This is vital in the identification of glaucoma and enabling early intervention. During the procedure, you sit in a chair with your chin on a rest, looking straight ahead as you experience a small air pulse.

We take high-quality digital images of the back of your eye using Digital retinal photography. The process is non-invasive and provides a comprehensive view of the retina to detect and monitor various eye conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and glaucoma.

Our priority is your long-term optical health

Our team of experienced optometrists utilise advanced technology and optical equipment to assess your eye health accurately and efficiently. We want to preserve your sight long-term by facilitating early intervention and relying on preventative eye care.

“State-of-the-art technology ensures accurate diagnostics — all for your long-term peace of mind.”

FAQs

How does your advanced OCT scanner help protect vision for residents of Manly and Collaroy?

The OCT scanner captures microscopic 3D images of the retina, cornea and optic nerve—allowing us to detect macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and other structural changes long before symptoms appear.

What is corneal mapping and how does it benefit contact lens wearers in Balgowlah or Freshwater?

By creating a high-definition image of the cornea, corneal mapping ensures a comfortable and accurate contact lens fit while helping us monitor eye health changes over time.

Why does tonometry matter for preventing glaucoma in Dee Why and Brookvale?

This quick, painless test measures intraocular pressure with a gentle air puff and helps us identify glaucoma early, when treatment is most effective.

How do digital retinal photos support eye health monitoring across the Northern Beaches?

Non-invasive images of the back of the eye provide a clear record, making it easy to track conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

What makes your investment in optometry equipment so valuable for patients in Manly?

We use state-of-the-art tools—like OCT, corneal mapping, tonometry and digital imaging—to deliver precise diagnostics and peace of mind.
