MiSight 1 Day Contact Lens

MiSight 1 Day Contact Lens

The MiSight 1 Day disposable soft contact lens is now available at Ian Donald Optometrist, Manly.

Our team of optometrists scour the world for the very latest and the very best myopia control treatments, and we’re delighted to give our patients access to MiSight 1 Day – groundbreaking new myopia control treatment.

Innovative solution for myopia control

MiSight 1 Day is the world’s first daily disposable soft lens specifically developed for myopia control. This revolutionary lens technology is explicitly designed to slow myopia progression in children and teenagers.

Myopia is blurry long-distance vision, often called “short-sightedness’’ or “near-sightedness”. A person with myopia can see clearly up close – when reading a book or looking at a phone – but words and objects look fuzzy on a blackboard, on television or when driving.

The prevalence among Australian 12-year-olds has doubled in six years. Myopia in kids tends to progress, and worsen throughout childhood, and higher levels of myopia are associated with higher eye disease risks in adulthood.

While glasses and soft contact lenses can correct the condition, until now, they have been unable to slow its rate of progression.

That’s why MiSight 1 Day is here to help.

Designed to make a difference

MiSight 1 Day is a unique dual-focus lens, meaning it has alternating distance correction and treatment zones.

MiSight changes the peripheral optics at the front of the eye, thereby affecting the focusing of light in the peripheral parts of the retina and modulating the growth of the eyeball.

The long-term effect is that eyeball elongation is reduced, which minimises the chance of developing high levels of myopia (-6.00D or more).

MiSight 1 Day may also lower the incidence of eye diseases associated with short-sightedness such as retinal detachment, glaucoma and cataracts.

Ease of use means you can have peace of mind

This innovative contact lens is designed for children or teenagers who have a myopia prescription from -0.25 to 6.00D. It’s particularly useful for those who have shown yearly myopia progression and eye elongation.

While there is no minimum age for a child to be prescribed with MiSight 1 Day lenses, younger children may need assistance from parents with daily lens insertion and removal.

However, MiSight lenses are designed for children’s ease of use and parental peace of mind. Studies have shown that children who had never worn contact lenses before found MiSight 1 Day easy to remove after one month of wear.

Parents also have a very positive response, noting that their children can mostly manage their lens wear independently. After their children had worn MiSight 1 Day contact lenses for three years, almost 9 out of 10 parents rated their children ‘extremely happy’ with the overall experience of wearing contact lenses.

Because of its ease of use, children can continue with their daily activities including school work, reading, playing outside and computer use. MiSight 1 Day lenses are designed to help children and teenagers participate in social activities without affecting their self-esteem.

Successful results around the world

While MiSight is new to Australia, the lens has been available for about seven years in East Asian countries such as Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, where the prevalence of childhood myopia is the highest in the world.

Optometrists in these countries have reported positive and encouraging results fitting these lenses on myopic children. MiSight 1 Day contact lenses reduced axial elongation by 52 per cent.

As MiSight 1 Day are daily disposable lenses, there’s no hassle of cleaning, disinfection or worrying about lost lenses.

Also, because of its low dehydration rates, it delivers suitable oxygen transmission for daily wear and provides excellent all-day comfort and eye health.
